After arriving at Victoria International Airport on the morning of October 30th the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay begins its 45,000 kilometre journey across Canada and is planned to arrive in Sidney just after 1 pm. The Town of Sidney organizing committee has put together an exciting plan to celebrate the day.
The community is invited to gather at the Mary Winspear Centre starting at 11:30 am to await the arrival of the relay and watch a video presentation featuring individuals from the area who have personal stories to tell about the Olympic experience. Plan to attend this free event and enjoy music, entertainment and complimentary refreshments, including the award winning treat, the Sidney Slice.
A little later, while many will wish to remain at the Mary Winspear Centre to greet the Torch’s arrival, others may choose to follow the music and entertainment to the Town Hall on Sidney Avenue, the second of three locations chosen by the committee for special Olympic Torch activities.
And then others may decide to gather at Tulista Park, the third special location, to enjoy still more music and entertainments, and wish the Relay well as it leaves Sidney to continue its long journey.
Come on out and cheer the Torchbearers as they sprint through Sidney. Let’s show Canada and the world that Sidney knows how to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay on its first day!
